Day 2: January 20th, went into town for a bit in the afternoon then went repelling into a limestone gorge. It was about 90 ft down, and my legs were shaking the whole time because there was a good part of it that was all open and no where to put your feet.
After most of us went there was a guy, Terry, who was just hiking in the area and stopped to talk to us...we talked him into repelling which was awesome. He said "you only die once", before he went down and when he climbed back to where we were he said he was crossing that off his bucket list...It made for a pretty great day!
Day 3: January 21, another amazing day in Waitomo! Going Caving and Black Water Rafting, because there is such a big group of us we split our group in half, I was in the afternoon group so I went back to bed for awhile which was much needed!
My groups turn to go!...tour guides were Monkey and Aaron, both hilarious and very entertaining.
Before you go caving, you have to practice jumping into your tube...pictures of each person were taken. Our guides really enjoyed making fun of us and trying to scare us while down in the caves...good time! That night we made our way down to Curly's pub with just our PC2 group and met up with a few of the guides there as well.
Day 3/4: Left the Maori and said our goodbyes to some great hospitality. Our next stop was to go to the Kaituna River for white water rafting, but before that we decided to stop to do some zorbing...it is basically going down a hill in a big gerbil ball. Short but fun! After we all took our turn going down, we laid on the hill and had the ball roll over us.
After that little adventure we got back on track and headed to our destination for White water rafting. We got a quick briefing before going then we were ready...the raft me and a few others from the group were in also had 2 guys from Israel, one who didn't speak the best english made our guide a bit irritated since he kept nodding and saying yes to the instructions but kept going the opposite when in the river...a little frustrating, but finally got things straightened out. The Kaituna river has the largest commercial rafting water fall, so that was pretty sweet that we were able to go down that. And luckily everyone in our raft stayed in throughout the trip :)
